Loke Bok Kun

Born in 1975 in Alor Setar,Kedah. He started by playing the dizi in SJKC Keat Hwa ‘H’ Chinese Orchestra. He was taught by Mr.Long Zhenyin. He then joined the Moral Uplifting Society’s Chinese Orchestra in Alor Setar, where he learned to play the cello.

In January 1995, he performed in the ‘1995 Shenzhen International Chinese Native Music Festival’ with Poi Lam High School Chinese Orchestra.In the same year, he performed in a concert tour in Taiwan.

In 1989, he took part in the First National Secondary School Students Chinese Music Competition and emerged fourth. In 1992, he emerged second runner-up.

In 1995, he was admitted to the prestigious Shanghai Conservatory of Music  for double major in dizi studies, under Mr.yi Xunfa, and cello studies, under Chen Jiuhe.

In 1996, he took a course of Chinese Folk Music. He further went on to be taught by Mr.Lu Chunling in dizi. He learned the siao under Dai Shuhong and conducting under maestro Xia Feiyun.

2000, he graduated from Shanghai Conservatory of Music with a degree in Music and became a Penang state Huayue Orchestra’s tutor for dizi. At the end of the year he gave a recital pf a dizi concerto.

2001, went on a concert tour with the Penang State Huayue Orchestra in Taiwan. He performed a duet with his master,Yu Xunfa at Dewan Sri Pinang.

2002, represented Malaysia to the 21st century International Chinese Music Festival and was a special guest at the Yuen Yongming Dizi Night.
